When a big cat collector in Texas died she left behind 20 lions, tigers and cougars in a barn on her property. Thanks to a five part collaboration of sanctuaries, GFAS - The Global Federation of Sanctuaries and YOU all of the cats were rescued! Max the cougar needed to be transported to Safe Haven Rescue Zoo in Nevada so Big Cat Rescue stepped in to help. The 5500 mile round trip from Tampa to Nevada took 3 staff members over a week to complete at a cost of $0.50 per mile! (U.S. Army) returned last Thursday, March 15, 2012 after serving one year in Afghanistan. We have 2 of our 3 children still living at home with us and, as you can imagine, a deployment hits kids the hardest. This year has been painful beyond words, and the worst part has been holding my kids as they cry themselves to sleep at night, missing their most amazing daddy. My kids are heroes, just like their dad! Anyway, after our 7-year-old son greeted his dad at the airport, we had a different kind of surprise in store for our amazing 18-year-old daughter, who is a senior in high school. She is the captain of her speech team and, after having just completed her 10-minute speech, we had her daddy come on stage to surprise her! She is daddy's only little girl, always will be, and boy did it show. We are all really just starting to be whole again after being without our #1 guy this last year. Cows belong in fields. We have known it for a long time. And the cows agree! In March 2012, we visited a farm in the UK to film cows being released from their indoor winter housing to their fresh pasture for spring and summer grazing. Notice the eagle in the background on the lamp post down by the street. That is the partner to this eagle. They aren't always out to attack and kill each other. The fox and eagles and cats basically get along just fine here. Sometimes if there is food they might fight over the food some. This is in Unalaska, Alaska in the Aleutian Islands. Also, earlier in the day when the fox first came Gizmo the cat went right up to the fox and told him to leave. It was too funny! But the fox came right back!
